If you’re looking for a rugged off-roading SUV, the 2025 Jeep Wrangler and its hybrid sibling, the 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe, can power your most extreme adventures. To help you decide between the two, this guide highlights each model’s unique features and differences.

Engine Options

The 2025 Wrangler has a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine under the hood. This engine generates 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, which is more than enough for conquering rough terrains. It pairs with a six-speed manual transmission that gives you full shifting control for enhanced performance on challenging grounds. A 2.0L Turbo engine paired with an automatic transmission is available across the lineup.

Each trim level of the 2025 Wrangler 4xe comes with the same powertrain that pairs a 2.0L I4 turbo plug-in hybrid engine with a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission for an output of 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, providing improved traction on loose or slippery terrains.

Fuel Economy and Range

While both the Wrangler and the Wrangler 4xe are efficient vehicles, each engine has its own ratings and range. The base 3.6L V6 engine provides 19 miles per gallon combined and a total driving range of 408 miles on a full tank. Equipped with the turbo engine and automatic transmission, the Wrangler offers up to 21 miles per gallon combined and a total range of up to 452 miles, depending on the style.

The plug-in hybrid Wrangler offers exceptional EPA estimates of up to 49 miles per gallon combined and a total driving range of 370 miles on gas only. It also offers an electric-only range of 22 miles, which is more than enough for eco-friendly errands. Hybrid, electric, and e-save drive modes allow you to tailor the power output to suit your needs.

Capabilities

Both the Wrangler and the Wrangler 4xe are rugged vehicles designed for off-roading, but they use slightly different drivetrains. The Wrangler comes standard with Jeep’s Command-Trac part-time 4WD system with shift-on-the-fly capability. This system allows you to switch between two-wheel and four-wheel drive as needed, to improve fuel economy on paved roads and increase traction off the road.

The Wrangler 4xe comes standard with the Selec-Trac full-time 4WD system that uses a two-speed transfer case to switch between two-wheel and four-wheel drive based on the road conditions. This automatic system adapts the torque output automatically to improve traction and stability when tackling extreme terrains. Select trims of both the Wrangler and the Wrangler 4xe use the Rock-Trac system for added performance on rocky trails.
